Long-time followers of Jesus are the most likely to say they attend to deepen relationships with other Christians (37%); newer followers of Jesus are more likely to be looking for people unlike them (21%).
Young adults attend church primarily for social and relational reasons, with nearly a quarter (24%) seeking deeper relationships with other Christians or people going through similar experiences. Young women consistently report a higher desire for community across most measured categories compared to young men. Furthermore, while long-time followers of Jesus often attend to deepen existing relationships, new followers are more likely to seek out people who are different from them.
