Toward Human Flourishing: Starting the Journey Together
6 min
Every great era of discovery begins with bold explorers—people willing to step into the unknown, chart new territory, and carry a vision bigger than themselves.
The moon had its astronauts. The oceans had their navigators. The internet had its pioneers.
And now, the age of AI needs its explorers too.
We’ve been around a lot of explorers—and if there’s one thing they don’t have, it’s certainty. What sets them apart is their willingness to move forward anyway. They’re comfortable in the unknown, where there are no roadmaps or guarantees —only conviction, curiosity, and the courage to take the first step.
Explorers don’t wait for blueprints —they make a commitment. To set out. To learn as they go. To stay open-handed and open-hearted. And to bring others along for the journey.
That’s what this moment is for us at Gloo.
We’ve heard from hundreds of you—developers, pastors, founders, researchers, teachers. You’ve told us you care deeply about building AI that serves humanity, not exploits it. And like us, you believe technology should help people thrive, not just survive.
This is why we’re launching Gloo Open—a commitment to transparency, open collaboration, and values-aligned AI.
A New Era of Open Innovation for the Faith Ecosystem
Before Gloo, we spent years at NASA pioneering early-stage technology programs and global collaboration efforts. We helped launch some of the largest open innovation movements in the world—from the International Space Apps Challenge to Random Hacks of Kindness to the National Day of Civic Hacking. We saw what happens when people from all backgrounds unite around a shared mission: real breakthroughs happen, faster than anyone imagined.
We believe the same spirit is needed now—urgently— because AI is no longer theoretical. It’s shaping how people relate, learn, worship, parent, and lead. And while AI is everywhere, trust isn't.
The Church cannot afford to be late to this moment. We’ve seen what happens when we are. When social media arrived, the algorithms were already optimized for clicks before the Church even showed up. But with AI, we have a different opportunity—a chance to lead, to shape, to steward.
Gloo is stepping in early. We’re shaping the future through open research, trusted tools, and bold partnerships—because this time, we don’t intend to miss it.
Gloo Open is a commitment to share research, datasets, models, and developer tools under open licenses. Not locked away. Not selectively available. But shared in the open, for the good of all.
We believe transparency builds trust. And trust is the foundation for the future we all want to live in.
This Is Just the Beginning
We know that technology is evolving fast, and we’re committed to listening, learning, and building in the open. Therefore, we wanted to kick off this journey with some upfront honesty. Here it is: we’re not pretending to have all the answers. Like any pioneering effort, there will be iteration, mistakes, and course corrections along the way. We’re choosing to begin not with perfection, but with purpose.
But our north star is clear: human flourishing. And we’re committed to aligning every step we take with that vision.
Over the coming months, you’ll hear more from us as we release:
Gloo for Developers – a space for developers to explore, build, and collaborate using our curated datasets, APIs and open-source tools.
Open-source AI models designed around human flourishing and values-aligned use cases.
Benchmarks and standards that elevate responsible innovation rooted in purpose and ethics.
Each release is a waypoint in a longer journey. One we want to take with you.
Join Us!
We’ve seen what’s possible when mission-driven technologists come together to solve real-world problems. That’s why we’re not just inviting developers, though—we’re building a movement, and there’s a place for you in it. Whether you’re a developer looking for tools you can trust, a pastor wondering how AI can serve—not supplant—your ministry, or a researcher, teacher, creator, or leader who believes that human flourishing should be the first input, not an afterthought—we want to build with you.
