The Chosen is more than a TV series—it’s a global movement sharing the mission of Jesus one episode at a time. A historical drama based on the life of Jesus, seen through the eyes of those who knew Him, it is now one of the most watched shows in the world and is reaching people across the globe in their own language.
At a one-of-a-kind premier in Madagascar, the film was broadcast in Malagasy. It was the first TV show ever to be translated into the native language of the people of Madagascar. After viewing the series, President Andry Rajoelina sought to make it available to all of Madagascar.
“We hope and wish for you to discover the power of love, compassion, and faith,” said Rajoelina to his people.
At a premiere event in the capital city of Antananarivo to remote villages, prisons, and on TV, The Chose was estimated to reach more than 10 million people in Madagascar. This is an incredible feat as more than 75 percent of the country has no electricity and has never seen a movie or TV show before.
Come & See, the non-profit associated with The Chosen, has worked with 135 linguists to ensure biblically accurate, theologically sound, and culturally relevant translations. The hope is to reach 95% of the world in their heart language. There are currently more than 70 languages in The Chosen app and the aim is to translate it into 600 languages with 100 dubbed languages and another 500 with subtitles.
Working with strategic missionally minded partners, the goal is to distribute The Chosen to one billion people around the world so that no matter where they are, people can experience the love, hope, and truth of Jesus. Come & See also has other collaborations to bring reading plans, devotional reading, scriptural reference, video content, and reflection questions directly to people through technology and through interactive groups.
The Chosen has been streamed by over 240 million people.
With over 80 million views and 42 million hours of content watched, The Chosen is telling the story of Jesus in the most authentic, intimate, and relatable way ever seen on screen. But this isn’t just about numbers—it’s about hearts.
